Background
Elaine Gillingham is Obelisk Technology's Director of Health and Safety. She is a Corporate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), a Chartered Engineer and Master of Business Administration (MBA) and brings a broad range of experience in a number of industrial, scientific and commercial environments to the development of effective systems and the resolution of health and safety problems.
After an early career in design and development of special purpose machinery, Elaine took on responsibility for plant maintenance, facilities management and capital projects in a blue chip international group - with emphasis on health and safety in a complex risk environment.
A further move into risk management activities led to experience of regulatory standards, including Health, Safety and Environment. During this time she developed the company's documented systems as part of a strategy for continuous improvement, and championed a focused use of resources on priority activities.
A period of time co-ordinating health and safety activities across the site followed, adding significant breadth to her health and safety activities prior to joining Obelisk Technology to set up the health and safety advisory service.
Since that time, the company have worked on a range of projects, including: devising and refining safety management systems for large and small construction, scientific and manufacturing organisations including start-ups and pilot plants; carrying out a range of risk assessments for companies in scientific, commercial, hospitality and industrial environments; assessing fire risks in offices and factories; providing tailored and highly practical training by good tutors who are also experienced in the subject; testing respirator fit and LEV systems on large chemical sites, in schools and colleges, for small and medium sized woodworking companies and a range of other businesses; carrying out in-depth DSE assessments for private and governmental organisations.
