LEV Testing

LEV

Any employer who uses local exhaust ventilation (LEV) to control dust, fume, vapour etc. must ensure that it is operating effectively and is in good repair. One aspect of this is a regular, formal examination and test of the LEV system as required by the COSHH Regulations.

Obelisk technology offers an LEV testing service which will help to determine whether your system is providing satisfactory control of the hazardous substance. We have carried out work for large and small companies in chemical, woodworking, engineering and food industries plus colleges, schools and public utilities.

As we are independent of any system provider, we have no interest in selling you equipment. Where we can, we will recommend modifications to improve performance, as simple remedial work can often be carried out in-house at significantly lower cost to our clients. As well as health and safety expertise, our testing team have extensive engineering and measurement experience with BOHS* qualification.

Many systems perform poorly, often through inadequate initial design or inappropriate additions. If your LEV does not perform satisfactorily, and cannot be improved by simple adjustment, we can prepare an engineering report to evaluate the design and performance of the equipment and make recommendations for improvement.

We examine and test the LEV and provide records in accordance with the requirements of Regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations (COSHH) and the guidance in HSG 258 "Controlling airborne contaminants at work: A guide to local exhaust ventilation (LEV)". The measurements taken are compared with the original specification for your equipment and/or the criteria for performance of ventilation systems given in HSG 258 and in ACGIH "Industrial ventilation: A manual of recommended practice", as well as various industry specific codes of practice.
