Display Screen Equipment

The frequent and extended use of Display Screen Equipment (DSE) - also known as VDUs or computer workstations - can lead to a number of health problems from aches and pains in shoulder, neck and back to upper limb disorders (also known as RSI), eye strain and stress.

In order to reduce the likelihood that this will occur, legislation requires the assessment of risk from workstations, provision of information, training of employees, the provision of appropriate breaks and the provision of eyesight tests and corrective glasses.

With the experience of many hundreds of DSE assessments behind us, Obelisk Technology can help with advice, assessments and training of both Users and Assessors. We can either carry out assessments for you or train your staff to complete them.

Our DSE assessments involve:

  • Discussing the User's use of the PC Workstation
  • Studying the User's posture, way of working and the workstation layout and equipment
  • Carrying out the assessment checklist, correcting those things which can be done immediately, e.g. chair adjustment.
  • Identifying actions that need to be carried out subsequently, with an indication of priority
  • Recommending where other expertise (e.g. occupational health professional, ergonomist) is required to assess or rectify particular health problems.
