Policies for Medium sized or Medium Risk Companies
The Policy and Arrangements documents is more suited to businesses with moderate numbers of employees or where the risks
are such that more detail is required to help those using it to work out exactly what needs to be done and by whom.
Depending on the complexity of the subject, this document may itself contain sufficient information to manage the risk
effectively, at other times it will be more suitable to prepare it with links to procedures, forms, risk assessments etc.,
so that when in place on an intranet, these supporting documents can be easily accessed. In printed form this may be 20
or so pages long.
Project
A medium sized ‘High Tech’ company approached Obelisk Technology to help them structure a health and safety policy and
arrangements document. They had risk assessments and procedures for much of their technical work, but no straightforward
way of guiding their staff to these documents. They had also not dealt with health and safety issues associated with the
building and facilities and required guidance for these.
The server-based document was structured carefully by subject and prepared with overview information for each topic –
allowing the reader to quickly evaluate whether the subject is of relevance and if so, linking them to more detailed
information and existing procedures.
The policy also outlined the control of risks due to the building and facilities, preventing these issues from being
neglected whilst the company were preparing procedures.
