Control of Contractors and Permits to Work
A permit to work (PTW) is a formal method of ensuring that a safe system of work is followed, by prompting appropriate actions and recording that they have been carried out. They should only be used for potentially high risk activities such as hot work, excavation, confined spaces, electrical work and some work at height. However, they are also an effective aid to controlling contractors carrying out more general activities, for example on a chemical or industrial site, where they may be at greater risk since they are working in an unfamiliar environment.   We offer two courses - PTW Training, where permits are issued to your own employees or labour only sub-contractors to cover high risk activities, such as in the construction industry (for details click here), and Control of Contractors Training, which covers the broader aspects of selection and control of contractors, including the use of permits (for details click here). The latter may be used to refresh understanding of a system which has fallen into disuse.
